Betta Fish Do Not Fart Because They Use Air to Inflate and Deflate Their Bladder

If you’re a betta fish owner, then you’ve probably heard this before – don’t ever feed your betta fish, as it’s very likely that they will defecate all over the tank.

The main reason why a betta fish won’t fart due to lack of air to inflate and deflate their bladder is because they use air to deflate and expand their bladder and anus.

This means that when they are in water that is too warm, they don’t have as much air in their tank and as such, the bacteria that live in their bodies produce less gases.

This results in them not being able to produce as much waste as they should be.

Betta fish don’t need a lot of oxygen to survive.

Therefore, you must also understand that they are quite active underwater and are usually exposed to temperatures of around 60 degrees Celsius.

The fact is that these fish breathe through gills, which are situated in between their dorsal fins and are attached by air sacs which are located between their anus and the vent.

When these two organs aren’t properly balanced, bacteria from the surroundings can damage their internal organs, including their bladder and their anus.

When this happens, your betta fish won’t be able to produce as much waste as they should.

Betta fish looks like fart because if there is lack of air to deflate and expand their bladder and sometimes gas escapes, it is important to provide them with a regular supply of air.

You’ll need to do this by changing out the water in your aquarium regularly.
