Most of us have heard of Freshwater Fish and Saltwater Fish, but what exactly is the difference? Fish that live in both fresh and salt water<\/a> are known as brackish fish, which means they must use an alternative way to remove harmful contaminants from their bodies.\u00a0They do this by an unusual process called osmosis<\/strong>.\u00a0Basically, the body of the fish must pass through a semi-permeable membrane known as its osmotic phase<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the fish leaves this phase, toxins are filtered out of the water and they can be stored in the gills.<\/p>\n
